Floorplans · 5 min
Read a floorplan beyond the bedroom count.
Look at circulation, furniture walls, storage, exposure, and the small compromises that shape an ordinary Tuesday.
Trace a normal day
Start at the entry. Where do shoes, coats, groceries, and a stroller go? Walk the route from the kitchen to the table, from the bedroom to the bathroom, and from the laundry to the closets.
Then place the furniture you already own. A plan may have enough total area while leaving few uninterrupted walls for a sofa, desk, television, or bed.
Ask what the drawing cannot settle
A plan image may represent a home type rather than a currently available home. Dimensions and layouts can change, and exposure can alter light, heat, outlook, and privacy.
Questions to ask
- Which homes currently use this exact plan?
- Are dimensions taken to finished surfaces or another reference point?
- What is outside each principal window and balcony?
